Funeral services set Saturday for former TPS AD Gil Cloud
TULSA – Funeral services are set Saturday for former Tulsa Public Schools Athletic Director Gil Cloud, who died last weekend at the age of 78.
Cloud had served in the position from 2012 to 2021, and was credited by many for turning TPS athletics around after the department was plagued with financial difficulties, and mired in scandal after the dismissal and criminal charges filed against his predecessor. Prior to joining the Tulsa Public Schools, Cloud had served as athletic director at Union and Guthrie, followed by stints as a college administrator at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, and Upper Iowa University.
A 1964 graduate of Rogers High School, one of Cloud’s milestone projects was the addition of the state of the art football stadium at his alma mater.
“Gil Cloud demonstrated a lifelong commitment to student-athletes, connecting young people with opportunities to showcase and develop their skills and actualize their potential,” the Tulsa Public Schools said in a statement. “On behalf of Will Rogers High School and TPS Athletics, Tulsa Public Schools honors his legacy and joins his loved ones in mourning his passing.”
In addition to his duties within TPS, Cloud was a television personality as host of Inside Tulsa Athletics which highlighted the accomplishments of students across the district. He also served as a host of the long running sports talk show Oklahoma Sportsscene alongside legendary Coach JV Haney and sportscaster Chris Lincoln.
Visitation is set from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM today at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, while funeral services will be held at Noon Satuday at the Will Rogers High School gymnasium.
