Memorial punches state tournament ticket
TULSA – The Memorial Chargers withstood a second-half push from Edison to claim a 52-42 victory in the Class 5A Area Tournament on Thursday night.
Memorial started strong, building a 15-4 lead after the first quarter and maintaining control through halftime, leading 31-16. Edison, however, came alive in the third quarter, outscoring the Chargers and cutting the deficit to 37-30 heading into the final period. Despite the momentum shift, Memorial kept its composure down the stretch, executing offensively and clamping down on defense to close out the win.
Isaiah Garrett led the Chargers with 16 points, while Jarius Bossell added 10. Memorial’s balanced scoring effort also saw contributions from Jaden Johnson (8), Jalil Cotton (7), Fabien Harris (5), Cam Hishaw (4), and Antonio Love (2).
For Edison, Maurice Jackson led all scorers with 16 points, providing a much-needed offensive spark for the Eagles. Jett Crawford, Quan Young, and Kevin Pescar each added six points, but Edison’s early struggles proved too much to overcome.
Memorial will advance to play Monday at Jim Norick Arena in Oklahoma City. Edison will play Collinsville in the consolation finals tonight at Frank Herald Fieldhouse in Jenks.
